BANYAN EXECUTIVE MARKETING TEAM EXPANDED
Addition of Industry Veterans
Positions Company for Continued Expansion
WESTBORO, Mass., January 15, 1991 -- Banyan Systems today announced
it has formed an executive marketing team, assembling six senior
directors with extensive backgrounds in high technology and
marketing. The executive marketing team will build Banyan's market
presence as they create opportunities for the company and implement
aggressive new marketing programs.
Banyan's executive marketing team has been organized by James
D'Arezzo, Vice President, Marketing, who joined the company in
July, 1990, from Compaq Computer Corporation. Four of the newly
appointed executives have worked with such leading high technology
companies as Apple Computer, Inc.; Compaq Computer Corporation;
Novell, Inc.; Sytek, Inc.; and Western Digital Corporation. Two of
the new marketing team members are Banyan employees, promoted to
newly-defined positions in Strategic Product Planning and Third
Party Marketing.

"We expect considerable growth over the next several years as PC
networking becomes the predominant approach to corporate-wide
computing," said D'Arezzo. "The expansion of our marketing staff
with high-caliber industry veterans positions us well for continued
growth as this market continues to develop."
Duane Bowman has been appointed Director, Product Marketing, for
all of Banyan's software products line. Bowman brings sixteen years
of high technology marketing experience in management, new product
development, strategic planning, and market research. Bowman's last
position was Director, Business Planning, at Novell, Inc., where he
managed the organization's new business ventures, marketing
strategy, and the initiation of new product development.
Banyan's new Director, Channel and Industry Marketing, is Edward
Cooper, formerly Senior Director, Worldwide Marketing, at Novell,
Inc., where he was responsible for the marketing, positioning, and
distribution of all products on an international basis.
Earlier, he had been Senior Director, Marketing, for the NetWareR
Products Division, responsible for product marketing associated
with Novell's network operating system products. Cooper's eighteen
years in high technology marketing include expertise in product
marketing, market development, communications, and operations
management in both the U.S. and abroad.

Bill Johnson, Banyan's new Director, Business Development, joins
the company after six years with Western Digital Corporation, where
he was most recently Director, Local Area Network Marketing,
responsible for worldwide business strategy, product planning, and
customer and third-party relations.
Previously, Johnson directed Western Digital's software development
to create DOS and UNIXR Local Area Network (LAN) operating systems
based on Microsoft networks. Johnson's nearly twenty years of high-
technology experience includes executive positions in engineering
and in software operations.
Jeff Stives has been named Director, Corporate Communications,
responsible for advertising, direct marketing, tradeshows, public
communications, communication services, and sales lead management.
Stives' extensive background in marketing communications includes
positions at Apple Computer, Inc., Compaq Computer Corp., Plexus
Computers, Inc., and Data General Corp. Most recently, he was
Senior Vice President and Director, Technology Division, at Daniel
J. Edelman Worldwide, Inc., responsible for the international
technology business at the $40 million public relations agency.
Newly promoted at Banyan are Barry Burke and David Penzias. Burke
takes on the position of Director, Strategic Product Planning, and
Penzias is now Director, Third Party Marketing.

As Director, Strategic Product Planning, Burke will lead the
definition and implementation of Banyan's future product
strategies. Since joining Banyan in 1988, he has held a variety of
positions; most recently, as head of the product marketing
function, where he significantly expanded the role and strengths of
the group. Before Banyan, Burke served in various product planning
and management positions within the computer hardware and software
industry, including six years at Prime Computer.
As Director, Third Party Marketing, Penzias will be responsible for
expanding and strengthening Banyan's relationships with independent
hardware and software developers. He has been part of Banyan's
marketing organization since 1986, most recently as Manager,
Hardware Product Marketing. Prior to Banyan, he was responsible for
managing LAN product marketing for Data General Corporation.
